The process of harvesting syrup takes time. Nature has a lot of influence over the process as well. Some elements we can control, other elements are beyond our control. Patience is required. The toils and rewards while making maple syrup mirror that of life! Patience is required. "Patience, the journey of Maple Syrup begins with a single drop." |

The Sugar Shack is where the boiling of sap takes place. This is a long process, sometimes involving long hours and endless dribble through conversations. Hence, the golden rule! "What's said in the Shack, stays in the Shack!" |

The gradient image of the Maple Leaf, half growth and half limited growth, including the phrase "OH CAN..ADA" suggests that Canada, as a nation, is a work in progress, emphasis, CAN. The Maple Syrup Season, 2020, was a tumultuous year. Inscribed on the back of the Maple Leaf is a window into the challenges of a Nation's moment in time. "OH CAN .... ADA! A dream accessible to some, intended for all. In the Spring of 2020 the storms of COVID, racism, climate and a looming recession tested the adaptability and resiliency of the Maple Leaf." |

In the Spring of 2020 COVID 19 dominated the headlines. The world, including the World Health Organization (WHO) and Health Canada, struggled to understand the virus and how best to advise populations. Rapidly, a number of 'new normals' emerged: a mask, social distancing, and stay at home orders. The accompanying sugar shack sign is reflective of new normals impacting our interactions. "New Normal: Tap Trees six feet apart!" |

Spring 2021 |
The Spring of 2021, in the Ottawa Valley, was a peculiar year for the harvesting of Maple Syrup. A shortened season and low sugar content in the maple sap, along with an unusually darker syrup, led to a myriad of uncensored Sugar Shack speculation, some of which is captured in the accompanying exchange between two Canadian beavers. Fuddle: "Sugar content in the sap is low this year." Duddle: "Predictable! Maple Mother is tiring of being the C02 containment strategy." |
